SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Zola of Urbana, who passed away on September 28, 2018; and

WHEREAS, David Zola was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Remo and Elinor Zola on May 29, 1947; he graduated from Lenox High School in 1965; he continued his education at Fairfield University, Williams College, and Cornell University; and

WHEREAS, In 1978, David Zola accepted a position as an assistant research professor at the University of Illinois and for the next 40 years distinguished himself as an outstanding teacher and professor in the College of Education; and

WHEREAS, Outside of the classroom, David Zola served as a youth minister at St. Patrick Parish; he was ordained as a deacon in May 2012, a role which allowed him to positively influence the lives of others every day; and

WHEREAS, David Zola lived to mentor and encourage his students and fostered many long-lasting friendships along the way; he considered his children as his greatest gifts; he affected many lives and will be remembered for his humor, grace, and compassion; and

WHEREAS, David Zola is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughters, Sarah (Eli) Zola Khazoum and Anne Zola; his son, Luke Zola; and his sister, Dale Zola; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Zola and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Zola as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
