| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Norma Jean Oberholtzer, who passed away | 4 | | on August 4, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer was born in Chicago to Carl and | 6 | | Elizabeth (Mungo) Franzo on March 15, 1939; she was educated in | 7 | | Pontiac schools and received her bachelor's and master's | 8 | | degrees from Illinois State University; she married Paul | 9 | | Gschwendtner in 1958 and Jack Oberholtzer in 1984; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, From 1980 to 2000, Norma Oberholtzer taught | 11 | | kindergarten, third, and fourth grades for the Pontiac Grade | 12 | | School district, where many students claimed her as their | 13 | | favorite teacher; from 2000 to 2009, she was an assistant | 14 | | instructional professor at Illinois State University; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer was deeply committed to the | 16 | | cultural, social, and economic growth of the communities where | 17 | | she lived; she served as a councilwoman for the city of | 18 | | Pontiac; she was a member of Rotary Club International, Young | 19 | | at Heartland, and the Girls Night Out Club; she supported the | 20 | | Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Eastview | 21 | | Christian Church in Bloomington; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer played the piano, wrote plays, | 2 | | hosted a radio program, and was an avid tennis player; she also | 3 | | played bridge and Mahjong with friends and enjoyed spending | 4 | | time with her family; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer was preceded in death by her | 6 | | first husband, Paul; her second husband, Jack; her son, Michael | 7 | | Gschwendtner; an infant son, Daniel; her parents; and her | 8 | | brother, Carl Franzo Jr.; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Norma Oberholtzer is survived by her daughters, | 10 | | Laura (Dan Ibrahim) Kelly and Mari Lynn (Rod) Hoselton; her | 11 | | daughter-in-law, Anita Gschwendtner; her sister, Arlene Moyer; | 12 | | her brothers, Gregory Franzo and Robert Franzo; her | 13 | | sister-in-law, Nanci Franzo; her grandchildren, Corey (Kara) | 14 | | Jones, Lindsay (Jeremy) Thompson, Andrew Hoselton, Bradley | 15 | | Hoselton, Ellie Gschwendtner, Kerry Gschwendtner, and Tracey | 16 | | Gschwendtner; her great-grandchildren, Ricky Bradley, Reggie | 17 | | Bradley, Brianna Bradley, Zoe Jones, and Lillie and Jase | 18 | | Thompson; and her great-nephew, Adam Lopez; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 | | Norma Jean Oberholtzer, and extend our sincere condolences to | 22 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 23 | | further
