| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Gabriel V. "Ben" Moreno of Joliet, who | 4 | | passed away on May 31, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ben Moreno was born in Osceola, Arkansas to Angel | 6 | | and Lucy (Venegas) Moreno on December 28, 1944; he was a | 7 | | lifelong resident of Joliet and graduated from Joliet Central | 8 | | High School; he attended Joliet Junior College; he was a | 9 | | decorated Vietnam War Veteran; he served as a Paratrooper with | 10 | | the 173rd Airborne in the United States Army, where he earned | 11 | | many medals, including two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts; | 12 | | and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Ben Moreno was an interpreter for the Will County | 14 | | Courthouse and retired in September 2017; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Ben Moreno was well known and respected in the | 16 | | community for his work as a community activist and his | 17 | | willingness to help those in need, especially troubled kids; as | 18 | | a boxing coach with the Joliet Park District, he dedicated over | 19 | | four decades to coaching and mentoring youth, keeping them off | 20 | | of the street and out of trouble; many of those he coached and | 21 | | mentored credit him with their success; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ben Moreno was preceded in death by his parents; | 2 | | his wife of 47 years, Jacqueline M. "Jackie" (Toth) Moreno; his | 3 | | daughter, Virginia Moreno; his son, Michael A. Moreno; and his | 4 | | siblings, Joe and Moses Moreno; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ben Moreno is survived by his children, "Bucky" | 6 | | (Meghan) Moreno and Thomas "Boo" (Karin) Moreno; his 12 | 7 | | grandchildren; his siblings, Tony (Mary) Moreno and Santos | 8 | | (Peggy) Moreno; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and | 9 | | friends; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Gabriel V. "Ben" Moreno and extend our sincere condolences to | 13 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
