SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charlie Allen of Lacon, who passed away
4on May 20, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlie Allen served in the U.S. Air Force; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charlie Allen was a prominent local businessman
7and anonymous philanthropist; he was the longtime president of
8the board that governs the Marshall County Airport just east of
9Lacon; for many years, he ran the family-owned lumberyards in
10Lacon, Princeton, and Toluca with his brother, Joe Allen Jr.;
11the business was sold in 2005 to the R.P. Lumber Co., but he
12maintained an office in Lacon for the Allen Family Limited
13Partnership, managing farmland and family business interests;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, 51 years ago, Charlie Allen founded the Father's
16Day Fly-in/Drive-in Breakfast at the Marshall County Airport;
17his memory will be honored in a new scholarship that will offer
18free beginner flying lessons to Marshall County students; he
19was known as an absolute country gentleman who used his
20business and his free time to make Marshall County a better
21place; and

1    WHEREAS, Charlie Allen made anonymous donations to many
2charitable organizations, colleges, and funds across the
3community, State, and nation and never wanted any recognition
4for it.; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlie Allen was preceded in death by his
6brother, Joe; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Charlie Allen is survived by a niece and nephew
8and their children; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Charlie Allen, and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Charlie Allen as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
