SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas W. "Tom" Fletcher of Oakwood, who passed away on May 9, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher was born in Elmira, New York to Glen H. and Alma L. (Smith) Fletcher on June 28, 1942; he married his college sweetheart, Susan K. Volle, in Elmhurst on August 31, 1963; and

WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher played baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization as a southpaw pitcher, after earning All-American honors at the University of Illinois; after his baseball career, he worked as a safety supervisor at TeePak in Danville and later as an activities supervisor at the Danville Correctional Center; he retired in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher was a life member of Hebron United Methodist Church in Newtown; while baseball served as a way of life for him, it was not a singular passion, as he enjoyed tinkering around his country home, building decks, crafting furniture, and moving dirt for numerous flowering terraces and walkways; he also played golf with lifelong friends every Tuesday; traveling across the country with his most treasured friend, his wife, Sue, was a newfound joy in retirement; he loved his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Paul and Carolyn Volle; and

WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Darrin (Sheila) Fletcher, Randy (Michelle) Fletcher, and Allison (John) Klint; and his grandchildren, Casey, Koby, Preslie, Averie, Ella, and Zane Fletcher, and Katie and Joey Klint; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas W. "Tom" Fletcher and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tom Fletcher as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
