SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas W. "Tom" Fletcher of Oakwood, who
4passed away on May 9, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher was born in Elmira, New York to Glen
6H. and Alma L. (Smith) Fletcher on June 28, 1942; he married
7his college sweetheart, Susan K. Volle, in Elmhurst on August
831, 1963; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher played baseball in the Detroit Tigers
10organization as a southpaw pitcher, after earning All-American
11honors at the University of Illinois; after his baseball
12career, he worked as a safety supervisor at TeePak in Danville
13and later as an activities supervisor at the Danville
14Correctional Center; he retired in 2003; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher was a life member of Hebron United
16Methodist Church in Newtown; while baseball served as a way of
17life for him, it was not a singular passion, as he enjoyed
18tinkering around his country home, building decks, crafting
19furniture, and moving dirt for numerous flowering terraces and
20walkways; he also played golf with lifelong friends every
21Tuesday; traveling across the country with his most treasured
22friend, his wife, Sue, was a newfound joy in retirement; he

1loved his family and friends; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents
3and his in-laws, Paul and Carolyn Volle; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Tom Fletcher is survived by his wife, Susan; his
5children, Darrin (Sheila) Fletcher, Randy (Michelle) Fletcher,
6and Allison (John) Klint; and his grandchildren, Casey, Koby,
7Preslie, Averie, Ella, and Zane Fletcher, and Katie and Joey
8Klint; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Thomas W. "Tom" Fletcher and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Tom Fletcher as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
