SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth H. "Ken" Bruner of Waukegan, who passed away on April 20, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bruner was born in Eagle Valley, Minnesota to George and Rose Bruner on April 11, 1925; he served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946, earning the rank of private first class; he married Dolores "Lorrie" Ressemann in Richmond, Minnesota on June 14, 1948; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bruner and his family moved to Waukegan in 1949; he was employed with Abbott Laboratories from 1949 to 1956 and then joined Fansteel in North Chicago in 1956, where he worked as a machinist for 10 years and as a foreman for 18 years; he retired after 28 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bruner was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Waukegan Council 731 and an Honorary Life Member of Bishop Quarter Assembly 197; he joined the Knights of Columbus in 1955 and was installed into the Fourth Degree in 1957; he served as a Faithful Navigator, Worthy Marshall, Faithful Comptroller, Grand Knight, and was Commander for Bishop William Quarter Assembly 197; in 2010, he was named Honorary Person for the Fourth Degree; he is also a lifetime member of the American Legion of Waukegan; he was a parishioner of St. Dismas Church for the past 37 years; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, Ken Bruner was a participant in the Lake County Honor Flight; he was part of the Sixth Annual Lake County Veterans History Project and was interviewed by Assistant State's Attorney, Fred Day; the transcripts of the interview were archived in the Library of Congress, and his story made the front page of the News Sun; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bruner was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Aaron Eaton; three brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; two nephews; and his sister, Marie Hesse; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bruner is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Dolores; his daughter, Cindy Kofler; his son, Daniel (Kathy Ryan) Bruner; his grandchildren, Jessica (Chad) Roberts, Erik (Rachel) Bruner, Jaime Bruner, and Danielle Bruner; his stepgrandchildren; his great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Roberts, Mikayla Bruner, Elijah Brown, Amari Stackhouse, Brooklyn Bruner, and Kennedy Bruner; and his stepgreat-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kenneth H. "Ken" Bruner, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ken Bruner as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
