SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jerome L. "Jerry" Riley of Woodstock, who passed away on April 20, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Riley was born in Ferndale, Michigan to William H. and Clara Eve (Cardinal) Riley on November 17, 1926; he served in the United States Army with the HQ 9th Troop Reg GP from 1945 until 1947; he married Patricia J. Dittman in Woodstock on September 15, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Riley worked for the family business, Riley and Riley Mobil, from 1950 until 1972; he then worked at the other family business, Dittman Plumbing & Heating, until his retirement in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Riley was a charter member and Unit Representative for the Woodstock Boy Scout Troop 776; he was a member of St. Mary Church, the Woodstock Knights of Columbus, where he served as treasurer, and the Woodstock VFW Post 5040, where he participated in the Honor Guard; he had a passion for woodworking, and with his friend, Albert Idler, made furniture and toys for family and friends and worked on projects for St. Mary Church; he also enjoyed traveling with Patty in their RV, golfing, reading, and baseball; in his retirement, he joined a softball league; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Riley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; his brothers, Gordon, Donald, William, and David; his sisters, Mary T. McCarthy, Shirley Rose, and Phyllis Vintz; and his infant grandson, Roger Hahn; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Riley is survived by his children, Leo (Christine) Riley, Timothy Riley, Bridget (Craig) Parman, and Colleen (Frank) Gosser; his grandchildren, Meghan, Aaron, Christopher, Ian, Ryan, Alison, Kelly, Wes, Jeremy, and Alex; his 13 great-grandchildren; his sister, Audrey Meyer; his sister-in-law, Mary Lee Klabunde; his brother-in-law, William Dittman; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jerome L. "Jerry" Riley and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jerry Riley as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
