SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John R. Sorensen of Woodstock, who passed
4away on April 22, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Sorensen was born in Woodstock to George and
6Geraldine Sorensen on December 29, 1947; he graduated from
7Woodstock High School in 1966; he then enlisted in the United
8States Army and was sent to Fort Belvoir, Virginia for engineer
9school; he spent the following year at Fort Bragg, North
10Carolina and then served in Vietnam for 15 months; he married
11Gail Bartram on May 12, 1972; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Sorensen worked for Eagle Foods for 31 years
13and Sam's Club for 13 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Sorensen dedicated his life to helping his
15fellow veterans; he was a charter member of Amvets Post 269, a
16life member, past commander, and past chaplain of the American
17Legion Post 412, a life member and two-time commander of the
18VFW Post 5040, a life member and past president of the McHenry
19County Vietnow Chapter, and a life member of DAV; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Sorenson was a board member and team manager
21for Little League for more than ten years; he was a member of a

1group of 12 Woodstock residents called the "Woodstock Baseball
2Association"; they were responsible for building the "Dream
3Field" in City Park; he served as Committee Chairman of the
4Woodstock Memorial Day Parade, which he directed for eight
5years, and initiated the display of American flags at the
6Woodstock Square on patriotic holidays; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Sorenson was preceded in death by his
8parents; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Sorenson is survived by his wife, Gail; his
10children, Robert (Lisa) Sorensen, Chrissy (Brian) Stotland,
11Karyn (Rob) Pourchot, and Toby (Becca) Sorensen; and his
12grandsons, Will, Justin, Charlie, Jake, and Josh; therefore, be
13it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16John R. Sorensen and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of John Sorensen as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
