SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John R. Sorensen of Woodstock, who passed away on April 22, 2018; and

WHEREAS, John Sorensen was born in Woodstock to George and Geraldine Sorensen on December 29, 1947; he graduated from Woodstock High School in 1966; he then enlisted in the United States Army and was sent to Fort Belvoir, Virginia for engineer school; he spent the following year at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and then served in Vietnam for 15 months; he married Gail Bartram on May 12, 1972; and

WHEREAS, John Sorensen worked for Eagle Foods for 31 years and Sam's Club for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, John Sorensen dedicated his life to helping his fellow veterans; he was a charter member of Amvets Post 269, a life member, past commander, and past chaplain of the American Legion Post 412, a life member and two-time commander of the VFW Post 5040, a life member and past president of the McHenry County Vietnow Chapter, and a life member of DAV; and

WHEREAS, John Sorenson was a board member and team manager for Little League for more than ten years; he was a member of a group of 12 Woodstock residents called the "Woodstock Baseball Association"; they were responsible for building the "Dream Field" in City Park; he served as Committee Chairman of the Woodstock Memorial Day Parade, which he directed for eight years, and initiated the display of American flags at the Woodstock Square on patriotic holidays; and

WHEREAS, John Sorenson was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, John Sorenson is survived by his wife, Gail; his children, Robert (Lisa) Sorensen, Chrissy (Brian) Stotland, Karyn (Rob) Pourchot, and Toby (Becca) Sorensen; and his grandsons, Will, Justin, Charlie, Jake, and Josh; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John R. Sorensen and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Sorensen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
