SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Neil Winston, M.D., who passed away on March 4, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Winston was born to Lloyd Sr. and Dorothy Winston Dillard on December 18, 1955; he graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparatory School in 1973, where he earned many awards and honors, including an honors diploma in science, the Pintozzi Ward, of which he was the first recipient, and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Letter of Commendation; he was also the Vice President of the Black Organization of Students, the Secretary of the Monogram Club, and a student athletic trainer; he then attended the University of Chicago and thereafter Loyola University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977; he earned his Doctorate in Medicine from Rush University in 1981; he completed his residency, with a concentration in the emergency room, at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Winston was an emergency medicine specialist in practice for 34 years; he was a gentleman and a scholar; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Winston was preceded in death by his sister, Marian; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Winston is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Johnson; his grandson; and his brother, Lloyd Jr.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Neil Winston, M.D. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Winston as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
