SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Stephen Wayne "Steve" Manker of Pittsfield, who passed away on March 23, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Steve Manker was born in Pittsfield to James R. and Connie J. Lawson Manker on November 1, 1971; he graduated from Griggsville High School in 1989, where he was active in the FFA, serving as a section officer; he went on to attend John Wood Community College for two years, serving on the board as a student trustee; he married Susan Hudelson in Pittsfield on June 3, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Steve Manker stayed to work at John Wood College as a maintenance man; he worked several other jobs in the Quincy area before joining County Market in Pittsfield; he began his career at Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) in 1995; he started out as an officer and became a maintenance craftsman; he resigned from IDOC in July of 2016 after 21 years; and

WHEREAS, Steve Manker actively supported the Republican Party and served as Village of Detroit (Illinois) President; and

WHEREAS, Steve Manker enjoyed hunting, fishing, rock hunting, metal detecting, pool, crossword puzzles, and riding motorcycles with "Sugarmomma"; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and enjoyed being a Papa; and

WHEREAS, Steve Manker was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Helen Lawson and Eugene Manker, and his brother, Daryl Brite; and

WHEREAS, Steve Manker is survived by his wife, Susan; his parents; his children, Wes Manker, Kendra (Justin) Schneider, Kim Manker, Beth Scott, and Hope (Zach Abney) Scott; his grandson, Talen Wayne Wand; his brother, James (Kari) Manker Jr.; his sister, Amy (David) Hill; his grandmother, Mary Nadine Manker; Mary Fleming and Jesse Crook, whom he thought of as his own children; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Stephen Wayne "Steve" Manker, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Steve Manker as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
