SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bessie Tsausis of Gurnee, who passed away on March 5, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Tsausis was born in Waukegan to Tony and Helen (Pilafas) Tsausis on December 18, 1933; she attended Central School, where the Waukegan Public Library presently stands, and graduated from Waukegan High School in 1951; she graduated from Lake Forest College in 1955; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Tsausis worked as a teacher for over 37 years in the Waukegan school district, mostly at Thomas Jefferson Jr. H.S.; she retired in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Tsausis spent winters at her condo in Bradenton, Florida; she was active with the League of Women Voters, Friends of Waukegan Library, AFT/IFT, and the Retired Teachers Association; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Tsausis founded the Waukegan Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Education Society in 1963; she was a founder of Sunday School and was a teacher and supervisor for 39 years; she was honored as "Mother of the Year" in 2005 by the Greek Community; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Tsausis is survived by her sister, Ethel, and her brother, John; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Bessie Tsausis, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bessie Tsausis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
