SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles Edward "Sonny" Clark Jr., who passed away on March 13, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Charles Clark Jr. was born in Meridian, Mississippi to Ada May and Charles Alan Clark Jr. on January 20, 1945; his family was a part of the "Great Migration" and moved to Chicago, where he graduated from Skinner Elementary School and completed his education at Cregier High School; in high school, he joined the neighborhood Drum and Bugle Corp and developed a lifelong love of music, especially jazz; he found joy in music and played the bass and snare drums; he married Donna Jones in April 1969; and

WHEREAS, Charles Clark Jr. enjoyed sharing in the ministry of Jehovah with his spiritual brothers and sisters; and

WHEREAS, Charles Clark Jr. enjoyed entertaining his family and friends; he was an excellent cook and was known for his creative and intricate carpentry designs; he turned his love of skating into a family adventure by handcrafting the family's skates and designing personalized skate bags; and

WHEREAS, Charles Clark Jr. was preceded in death by his mother and his grandson, Jamel Cook; and

WHEREAS, Charles Clark Jr. is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughters, Sharunda Clark, Cassandra Davidson, Charlene Clark, Margaret (Glen) Taylor, and Keisha Clark; his sisters, Maxine Brown, Cheryl (Earl) Johnson, and Revlon (Larry) Burton; his brothers, Jerome Clark and Ronald Clark; his grandchildren, Jonai and Jaszmin Madison, Juwan, Kahill, and Nina Davidson, and Dominique Hodgens-Clark; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles Edward "Sonny" Clark Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Charles Clark Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
