SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth L. "Ken" Carlson Sr., who passed away on March 24, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Ken Carlson was born to Lowell and Viola Carlson on July 17, 1943; he graduated from Moline High School in 1961, where he was an avid bowler and won the Dispatch Bowling Tournament his senior year; he served in the United States Army for two years, mostly notably in Bad Kissingen, Germany; he married Diane Vroman in Moline on October 17, 1964; and

WHEREAS, Ken Carlson worked as a welder at John Deere Harvester in East Moline; he was in charge of the John Deere Harvester Welding Lab and accomplished his goals of becoming a Certified Welding Inspector and a Certified Welding Educator; he retired in 2003; he taught welding at Black Hawk College, Scott Community College, and several other community colleges; and

WHEREAS, Ken Carlson volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Kids Against Hunger; and

WHEREAS, Ken Carlson enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and spending time with his family and his companion, Lady; he coached baseball and softball for his son and daughter's grade school and junior high teams; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears; and

WHEREAS, Ken Carlson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane; his children, Kenneth Jr. (Deanna) Carlson and Tracy (Joe) Berhenke; his grandson, Luke Carlson; his step-grandchildren, Ally and Reese Berhenke; his step-great-grandchildren, Kobey, Avah, and Paisley; his sisters, Karen VanQuathem, Kathy Murphy, and Gayelene (Bruce) Johnson; his brother, Ronald (Ruth Ann) Carlson Sr.; and many beloved nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kenneth L. "Ken" Carlson Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ken Carlson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
