SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kenneth L. "Ken" Carlson Sr., who passed
4away on March 24, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Carlson was born to Lowell and Viola Carlson
6on July 17, 1943; he graduated from Moline High School in 1961,
7where he was an avid bowler and won the Dispatch Bowling
8Tournament his senior year; he served in the United States Army
9for two years, mostly notably in Bad Kissingen, Germany; he
10married Diane Vroman in Moline on October 17, 1964; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ken Carlson worked as a welder at John Deere
12Harvester in East Moline; he was in charge of the John Deere
13Harvester Welding Lab and accomplished his goals of becoming a
14Certified Welding Inspector and a Certified Welding Educator;
15he retired in 2003; he taught welding at Black Hawk College,
16Scott Community College, and several other community colleges;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ken Carlson volunteered with Habitat for Humanity
19and Kids Against Hunger; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ken Carlson enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and
21spending time with his family and his companion, Lady; he

1coached baseball and softball for his son and daughter's grade
2school and junior high teams; he was an avid fan of the Chicago
3Cubs and Chicago Bears; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ken Carlson is survived by his wife of 53 years,
5Diane; his children, Kenneth Jr. (Deanna) Carlson and Tracy
6(Joe) Berhenke; his grandson, Luke Carlson; his
7step-grandchildren, Ally and Reese Berhenke; his
8step-great-grandchildren, Kobey, Avah, and Paisley; his
9sisters, Karen VanQuathem, Kathy Murphy, and Gayelene (Bruce)
10Johnson; his brother, Ronald (Ruth Ann) Carlson Sr.; and many
11beloved nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Kenneth L. "Ken" Carlson Sr., and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Ken Carlson as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
