SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Paul C. Schreckenberger, Ph.D. of River
4Forest, who passed away on November 29, 2016, at the age of 69;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Schreckenberger was raised in Buffalo, New
7York; he earned his bachelor's degree in medical laboratory
8science from the State University of New York; he graduated
9from the University of Minnesota with a master's degree in the
10same field in 1974; he served seven years in the United States
11Army National Guard; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Schreckenberger moved to Chicago to become an
13assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago,
14teaching clinical microbiology and helping to train laboratory
15technicians; he later became Associate Director of Clinical
16Laboratories at the University of Illinois Hospital; and
 
17    WHEREAS, After completing work on a Doctorate in Pathology
18with a focus on microbiology in 1989, Dr. Schreckenberger
19became the Director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at
20Loyola University Medical Center and a professor of Pathology
21at the Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood; he was
22internationally recognized as an expert in the field of

1microbiology and lectured at conferences around the world; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Schreckenberger was named Teacher of the Year
3by pathology residents three times while at the Loyola
4University Medical Center; he was elected to the American
5Academy of Microbiology in 2008, and in 2010, he received the
6Pasteur Award from the Illinois Society for Microbiology; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Schreckenberger was one of the lead authors of
8the microbiology textbook "Koneman's Color Atlas and Textbook
9of Diagnostic Microbiology"; he wrote a number of chapters for
10other books and contributed to 85 journal publications and 259
11published abstracts or posters; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Schreckenberger kept spirits high in the
13department with festivities such as a costume contest or a
14themed lunch with hot dogs when the Chicago Cubs were in the
15World Series; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Schreckenberger was preceded in death by his
17parents, Charles and Dorothy Schreckenberger, and his
18children, Laura and Scott; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Schreckenberger was the husband of Ann (Dye);
20the father of Adam; the brother of Ann Marie (Jean Bernard)
21Roeder, Mary Kathryn (Arthur) Hart, Thomas (Claudine), Denise

1(Darryl) Anello, and Charles "Chas" (Kimberly)
2Schreckenberger; the brother-in-law of Cindy (Jerry) Redmond
3and Sharon (the late Nelson) Dye; and uncle of many; therefore,
4be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Paul C. Schreckenberger, Ph.D., and extend our sincere
8condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
9him; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Dr. Schreckenberger as an expression
12of our deepest sympathy.
