SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lucy D. Bernard of Warrenville, who
4passed away on March 5, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lucy Bernard was born in Chicago to Maria and
6Dominic Colagrossi on April 6, 1923; she graduated from John
7Marshall High School in Chicago in 1940 and from Wright Junior
8College in Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lucy Bernard began her professional career
10working for advertising agencies in Chicago until she moved to
11Warrenville in 1957; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lucy Bernard led the effort to incorporate
13Warrenville as a city; she was elected as its first city clerk,
14a position that she held for the next 25 years; she was the
15director of the Warrenville Historical Society and active in
16the Warrenville Youth and Family Services organization; she
17celebrated Warrenville's 50th anniversary by having her own
18float in the parade as the only surviving member from
19Warrenville's first days as a city; the "Lucy Bernard Pace
20Setter Award" was named after her for her dedication,
21commitment, and work for the city; she was presented with the
22key to the city by the mayor and April 6 was declared "Lucy

1Bernard Day"; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Lucy Bernard was an active member of St. Irene's
3Parish in Warrenville, where she was a member of the Altar and
4Rosary Society and the Catholic Council of Women; she was also
5part of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lucy Bernard was preceded in death by her husband
7of 55 years, Frank Bernard; her parents; her son, Richard
8Bernard; and her siblings, Dominic and Mary Jane Colagrossi;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lucy Bernard is survived by her children, Gary
11(Lorraine) Bernard, Frank (Shari-Lyn) Bernard, and John
12Bernard; and her grandchildren, Nicholas Bernard, Andria
13(Justin) Sadowski, Evan Bernard, and Matthew, Mary, Rachel,
14Maria Lucia, Michael, and Margaret-Mary Bernard; therefore, be
15it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Lucy D. Bernard, and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
