SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Peter S. Scaffidi Sr. of Huntley, who
4passed away on February 17, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Peter Scaffidi Sr. was born to Salvatore and
6Josephine Scaffidi in April 1926; he enlisted in the United
7States Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theatre during
8World War II; he was a devout Catholic and married Betty on
9October 19, 1946; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Peter Scaffidi Sr. retired from the Railroad
11Retirement Board after a rewarding 35-year career; and
 
12    WHEREAS, During retirement, Peter Scaffidi Sr. enjoyed
13living in San Diego with his wife for several years before
14returning to Illinois; he also enjoyed playing sports,
15including bocce ball, basketball, racquetball, football,
16baseball, and senior softball; he adored watching his
17grandchildren play sports, and he had a passion for reading,
18especially periodicals like National Geographic and
19Smithsonian; he was a storyteller and a "wiz" at crossword
20puzzles; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Peter Scaffidi Sr. was the beloved husband of the

1late Marian Elizabeth "Betty" Scaffidi; the loving father of
2Judith (the late Michael) Melvin, Tina (Dean) Norman, Patti Jo
3(Robert) Paladino, Peter (Jane) Scaffidi II, Sheryl "Sherrie"
4(Gregory) Doherty, Mari Jane "Kim" (Dan) Hayes, the late Jayne
5(Chester) Kowalczyk, and the late Susan (Mark) Pedersen; the
6cherished grandfather of Tom, Todd, Teri, Khristy, Brian,
7Kevin, Ryan, Krystin, Jason, Christopher, Dawn, Bob, Ketley,
8Peter, Courtnie, Justin, and Joshua; the great-grandfather of
9Anthony, Carter, Jacqueline, Jake, Sam, Cory, Brandon, Brady,
10Adrianna, Easton, Carson, Stephanie, Andrew, Austin, Aiden,
11Joshie, Brendan, Mya, Connor, Kaz, and Jayden; the fond uncle
12to many nieces and nephews; he will be dearly missed by his
13sisters-in-law and many friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Peter S. Scaffidi Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Peter Scaffidi Sr. as an expression
21of our deepest sympathy.
