SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Peter S. Scaffidi Sr. of Huntley, who passed away on February 17, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Peter Scaffidi Sr. was born to Salvatore and Josephine Scaffidi in April 1926; he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II; he was a devout Catholic and married Betty on October 19, 1946; and

WHEREAS, Peter Scaffidi Sr. retired from the Railroad Retirement Board after a rewarding 35-year career; and

WHEREAS, During retirement, Peter Scaffidi Sr. enjoyed living in San Diego with his wife for several years before returning to Illinois; he also enjoyed playing sports, including bocce ball, basketball, racquetball, football, baseball, and senior softball; he adored watching his grandchildren play sports, and he had a passion for reading, especially periodicals like National Geographic and Smithsonian; he was a storyteller and a "wiz" at crossword puzzles; and

WHEREAS, Peter Scaffidi Sr. was the beloved husband of the late Marian Elizabeth "Betty" Scaffidi; the loving father of Judith (the late Michael) Melvin, Tina (Dean) Norman, Patti Jo (Robert) Paladino, Peter (Jane) Scaffidi II, Sheryl "Sherrie" (Gregory) Doherty, Mari Jane "Kim" (Dan) Hayes, the late Jayne (Chester) Kowalczyk, and the late Susan (Mark) Pedersen; the cherished grandfather of Tom, Todd, Teri, Khristy, Brian, Kevin, Ryan, Krystin, Jason, Christopher, Dawn, Bob, Ketley, Peter, Courtnie, Justin, and Joshua; the great-grandfather of Anthony, Carter, Jacqueline, Jake, Sam, Cory, Brandon, Brady, Adrianna, Easton, Carson, Stephanie, Andrew, Austin, Aiden, Joshie, Brendan, Mya, Connor, Kaz, and Jayden; the fond uncle to many nieces and nephews; he will be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Peter S. Scaffidi Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Peter Scaffidi Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
