SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert "Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen of
4Peoria, who passed away on March 5, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was born to Frank and Florence
6Lehnhausen on September 11, 1919; he attended the Spalding
7Institute, where he was senior manager of the athletic
8department; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was drafted into the United
10States Army in May of 1941; he volunteered for the Aviation
11Cadet Program and joined the 44th Bomb Group of the 8th Air
12Force; for the next 27 months, he served as a combat bomber
13pilot and squadron commander in Europe and North Africa; he was
14awarded numerous medals and recognitions, including the
15Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart,
16the Soldier's Medal, a European Theatre of Operations medal
17with nine campaign stars, and the French Croix de Guerre; he
18achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel, was discharged in 1946, and
19served in the Air Force Reserve until 1969; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen returned to Peoria and helped
21his father run the family drapery shop; he was elected to the
22Peoria City Council in 1953 and served as mayor from 1965 to

11969; he went on to head the Illinois Housing Authority and the
2Illinois Department of Local Government Affairs; in 1973, he
3became an officer at Peoria's First Federal Savings Bank, where
4he worked until he retired in 1985; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen turned his attention to the
6stock market over the last several decades of his life,
7learning as much as he could, refining his investment
8strategies, and passing along his knowledge; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was an active member of St.
10Cecilia Parish, and later, St. Jude Parish; in 1995, Peoria
11Notre Dame High School awarded him with its Distinguished
12Alumnus of the Year award; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was preceded in death by his
14parents; his brother, Clark Lehnhausen; his infant son, Robert
15Lehnhausen; his daughter-in-law, Cathy (Shannon) Lehnhausen;
16and his grandson, Jacob Johnson; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen is survived by his wife of 72
18years, Elizabeth (Waugh); his children, Mary Jo Lehnhausen
19(Arun Pinto), Phillip (Teresa) Lehnhausen, Ann (Jack)
20Burtelow, Tom Lehnhausen, Kay (Scot) Ironside, Steven (Karen)
21Lehnhausen, and Dave Lehnhausen; his grandchildren, Navin
22(Jennifer) Pinto, Kiran Pinto (Cory Morris), Anjali Pinto,

1Timothy Lehnhausen (Stephanie Haas), Tobin Lehnhausen, Matthew
2Lehnhausen (Priscilla Varela), Tina (Mike) Miller, Jeff (Abby)
3Burtelow, Elizabeth (Mike) Bauer, Jim (Mallory) Ironside,
4Meredith (Mike) Steininger, Michael (Patricia) Lehnhausen, and
5Stephanie Lehnhausen (Scott Shaw); 16 great-grandchildren; his
6brother-in-law, Fr. John Waugh; his sisters-in-law, Kathleen
7(Phil) Harney and Freddie Waugh; and numerous loving nieces and
8nephews; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Robert "Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen, and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Robert Lehnhausen as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
