2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William Moreland "Bill" Kuhne of
4Champaign, who passed away on February 2, 2018; and
5    WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was born in Urbana to Robert and
6Elizabeth Cook Kuhne on July 6, 1932; he graduated from
7University High School in 1948; he earned a Bachelor of Arts in
8Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1952; he married
9Doris Anne "Susie" Blair in Columbus, Ohio on June 15, 1957;
11    WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was a proud third-generation general
12contractor; he started on his path to success with Jones &
13Laughlin Steel Company in 1952; he then joined the family
14construction business, Kuhne Simmons Company in 1956, which
15eventually led to his leadership role at Petry-Kuhne Company in
16Champaign; he was quietly proud of the impact the companies and
17their projects made on the campus of the University of
18Illinois, around Champaign-Urbana, and throughout Central
19Illinois; and
20    WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was an active member of the Central
21Illinois Builders, the Association of General Contractors, and
22the American Institute of Contractors; he served in many

1leadership roles, including chairing multiple subcommittees
2and serving in executive committee positions; he also inspired
3the next generation of contractors by participating on the
4construction advisory committees at Bradley University and
5Iowa State University; and
6    WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was an active member of the community;
7he was a lifelong member of the Community Foundation of
8Champaign County, a past chairman of the Champaign County
9Regional Planning Commission, a past president of the Champaign
10Rotary Club, a past president of the Champaign Country Club, a
11past director of the Champaign Chamber of Commerce, and a past
12chairman of the City of Champaign Plan Commission; he was
13elected to the Champaign City Council and during his tenure
14also held the position of deputy mayor; he was also an active
15member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where he served
16as an elder and trustee; and
17    WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was an avid golfer and held the proud
18distinction of a hole-in-one at the Champaign Country Club; he
19and his wife enjoyed many great adventures with the late Fred
20and Betty Blythe, their good friends; he was a loving and
21devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and
22great-grandfather; and
23    WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was preceded in death by his friends

1and business partners, Jim Sullivan and Bill Dallenbach; and
2    WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne is survived by his wife, Susie; his
3daughters, Nancy (David) Welsh and Karen (Robert) Sibert; his
4grandchildren, Katharine (Joel) Bonasera, Libby Glass, Laura
5Sibert, and David Sibert; his great-grandchildren, Quinten and
6Jane Anne Bonasera; his brother, Christopher (Sandy) Kuhne; his
7sister-in-law, Caroline Blair Ettinger; and his many cousins,
8nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11William Moreland (Bill) Kuhne and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Bill Kuhne as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
