SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Clayton "Dave" Ayres of Woodstock, who
4passed away on December 26, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dave Ayres was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Paul
6R. and Gertrude Ingrid (Haugen) Ayres on May 12, 1939; he
7married Judith Ann Cole On June 11, 1958 and served in the
8United States Navy for 20 years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dave Ayres spent 18 years with Illinois Tool Works
10as a human resources manager; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dave Ayres was a member of the American Legion,
12the Lions Club, and the Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist
13Congregation in McHenry, where he served on several committees,
14including as chair of the Stewardship Committee, and
15spearheaded several church missions; every Thursday you could
16find him communing with his weekly men's breakfast group; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dave Ayres lived most of his youth in Wisconsin,
18including the towns of Madison, Beloit, Hayward, and Cable; he
19loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman; his hobbies
20included photography, writing, fly-tying, solving Sudoku
21puzzles, designing and building A/V speaker enclosures, and

1woodworking; he enjoyed the occasional round of golf, bowling,
2and throwing darts; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dave Ayres and Judy spent a number of years in
4Minocqua, first as a second home and eventually as their
5primary; they enjoyed traveling, both locally and abroad; most
6recently they explored by car several national parks throughout
7the northern Rockies, toured Prague and Vienna, and cruised to
8Alaska; one of their favorite destinations was Las Vegas, where
9it was rumored Dave could be found frequenting his favorite
10craps tables; every spring they spent six weeks in Florida; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Music was also a very important part of Dave
12Ayres's life; he listened to all genres of music and took an
13interest in playing instruments; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Most important to Dave Ayres was his family; he
15was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and
16great-grandfather; he doted on his grandchildren and was always
17looking forward to his time with them; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dave Ayres was preceded in death by his parents;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dave Ayres is survived by his wife of over 59
21years, Judy; his children, Dean (Anne), Diana (Tyrone) Quinn,

1Donald (Alison), and Darin (Terra); his grandchildren, Joseph,
2Tim, Carolyn, Ashley, Tyler, Patrick, David, Connor, Cole, and
3Chase; his great-grandchildren, Odin and Autumn; his sisters,
4Katherine (Norman) Gharrity, Susan Rosa, and Helen Fandrei; and
5his sister-in-law, Connie Henry; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Clayton "Dave" Ayres, and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Dave Ayres as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
