SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kenneth Van Dyne "Ken" Fiske of
4Woodstock, who passed away on December 20, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Fiske was born in Chicago to Kenneth M. and
6Eunice (Van Dyne) Fiske on April 18, 1925; he graduated from
7the United States Merchant Marine Academy and served with the
8U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant
9Junior Grade; he graduated from the University of
10Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in agricultural engineering,
11where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; he
12married Darlene Sharp in 1954; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ken Fiske worked in Chicago as a television
14producer at NBC, creating the show "Out on the Farm"; he then
15worked with the National Safety Council and the Velsicol
16Chemical Company; he was a founder of the Northeast Illinois
17Natural Resource Center based at the Morton Arboretum; in 1971,
18he became the first Executive Director of the newly-formed
19McHenry County Conservation District; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ken Fiske was named to the Illinois Outdoor Hall
21of Fame in 2004 and received the U.S. Merchant Marine Alumni
22Association's Outstanding Professional Achievement Award in

12006; he was a member of the Wisconsin Agricultural Alumni
2Association; he and his wife, Darlene, were named the Nature
3Conservancy's Volunteers of the Year in 1987 and the National
4Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Refuge Volunteers of the Year in
52004; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ken Fiske was preceded in death by his parents and
7his wife, Darlene; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ken Fiske is survived by his daughters, Diana
9(David) Wilson, Jennifer Fiske, and Nancy (Ron) Readel; his
10grandchildren, Matthew (Kate) Wilson and Timothy (Nina Beck)
11Wilson; his great-grandchildren, Elliot and Nora Wilson; and
12his sister, Virginia Boorom; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Kenneth Van Dyne "Ken" Fiske, and extend our sincere
16condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Ken Fiske as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
