SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James F. "Jim" Harry of Springfield, who passed away on December 18, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Jim Harry was born in Quincy on December 30, 1939; he graduated from Pittsfield High School and Illinois College; he served in the United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in December of 1964; he married Leora (Thompson) Lash on July 15, 1977; and

WHEREAS, Jim Harry's early career was in radio news broadcasting; he moved from covering politics to working in state government for Gov. Richard B. Ogilvie; during the last years of his career, he worked as the secretary and assistant secretary of the Illinois State Senate, retiring in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Jim Harry served as president of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries from 1999 to 2000; he was a member of the Historic Grace Lutheran Church and the YMCA for many years; and

WHEREAS, Jim Harry is survived by his wife, Leora; his son, Scott (Nancy) Harry; his daughters, Michelle (Garrett) Campbell and Amy (Mark) Lash Esau; his grandchildren, Michael, Whitney, and Luke Harry, Graydon and Graham Campbell, and Austin and Marisa Esau; his brothers, Jack (Nancy) and Steve (Linda) Harry; and several nieces and a nephew; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James F. "Jim" Harry, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Harry as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
