SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Elmer I. Gramley of Kaneville, who passed
4away on November 26, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley was born in Aurora to Ben and
6Frances (Flanders) Gramley on May 18, 1946; he graduated from
7Kaneland High School in 1964, where he was a member of the
8Future Farmers of America and made a name for himself as a
9trumpet player; he attended Iowa State University, where he
10studied agricultural science; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley returned to Kaneville in 1971 and,
12alongside his older brother Leon, began tilling the land and
13tending to the livestock on the family farm; he loved to drive
14his beloved Peterbilt semi, hauling livestock to, and from,
15many parts of the country; he married Jan Demitriu in Justice
16on July 25, 1981; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley was a member of the Kane County Farm
18Bureau, the National Corn Growers Association, and the National
19Soybean Association; he served for many years on the Kaneland
20School Board and was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years, 10
21of them as chief; and

1    WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley always enjoyed having a cold beer in
2hand and overlooking a pig roast; he finished the Chicago
3Marathon in 2002; he and his wife enjoyed traveling around the
4world, taking pictures in front of many of the wonders of the
5world; their cruise through the Panama Canal was a personal
6favorite; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley was preceded in death by his parents
8and his brother, Leon Gramley; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley is survived by his wife of 36 years,
10Jan; his daughter, Sara Gramley; and numerous nephews, nieces,
11cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Elmer I. Gramley, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Elmer Gramley as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
