SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elaine (Spiesberger) Frank, who passed away on December 23, 2017 at the age of 100; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Frank was born in 1917; she graduated from the University of Chicago's business school, one of only three women in a class of 1,000; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Frank was a visionary and lifelong philanthropist whose commitment to her community touched multiple generations; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Frank was integrally involved with the JCC Chicago (Jewish Community Center Chicago) as evident in the Elaine Frank and "Z" Frank Apachi day camps; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Frank was on the boards for the Jewish United Fund and the Jewish Federation several times between 1971 and 1984 and served as a vice chairman; she served on the Inaugural Legacies and Endowments Committee and played a pivotal role in launching the Federation's endowment program; she was a trailblazer when there were not many women in leadership roles in Jewish organizations; she was the first female president of any local Federation agency when she became president of JCC Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Frank was the beloved wife of the late Zollie; the devoted mother of Laurie (the late Paul) Lieberman, Jim (Karen) Frank, Nancy (Marty) Schechtman, Chuck (Debbie) Frank, and Sanford Elias; the cherished grandmother of Lisa Lieberman (Morris) Barzilai, L. Frank (Alicia) Lieberman, Tricia (John Ferreira) Scobey, Penny (Tim) Jack, Jennifer (Richard) Rofe, Daniel Frank, Jordan (Laura) Frank, Keri (Hugh) Norley, Kenny (Stacy) Kaplan, Nicole (Adam) Friedman, Jana, Zach, and Melanie Frank; the proud great-grandmother of 20; the dear sister of the late Rita (the late Armund) Schoen; and caring aunt of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elaine Frank, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elaine Frank as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
