SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eddie Carter of Rantoul, who passed away on February 19, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Carter was born in Greenville, Georgia to Jenny Mae and Jimmy Lee Bray on December 11, 1949; he married Margurette Brooks on July 24, 1971 and they resided at the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul; and

WHEREAS, In January 1976, Eddie Carter became a member of the Rantoul Police Department; he retired as Deputy Chief in June 2005; he attended the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and was honored as Officer of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Carter was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rantoul; he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Community Service Board, the Revolving Loan Committee, Lone Star Lodge No. 18, NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives), and the Champaign/Urbana Officials Association; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Carter is survived by his daughter, LaTonya Carter-Sanders; his grandchildren, Lauryn DeShon Corell Sanders, and Clarence Edward Sanders Jr.; his brother-in-law, Paul Brooks; his brothers, Johnny L. and Eddie Bray; his sisters, Shirley (Hiram) Hayes, and Vanessa Cutwright; and his nieces and nephews, Richard Bray, Stephanie Bray-McCord, Alfonso Bray, Jawaun Hayes, Jonathan Bray, and Camille Cutwright; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eddie Carter, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eddie Carter as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
