HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maurice
4L. Powe Jr., who passed away on March 17, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maurice Powe was born in Chicago to Esteen and
6Maurice Powe Sr. on July 21, 1949 and was baptized at Ebenezer
7Lutheran Church in Chicago; he attended Rowell B. Mason
8Elementary School and was the first African-American to attend
9Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, graduating in
101967; his first job was at Mr. Sinai Hospital in the Radiology
11Department and he then served in the United States Army from
121968 to 1975; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Maurice Powe's was employed as a conductor for the
14Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 2015 after 45 years of
15dedicated service; he then obtained part-time employment at
16Pinnacle Property on the Hines V.A. Compound; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Maurice Powe was affectionately known as "Chico"
18or "Mo"; he was an avid sports enthusiast, whether it was
19baseball, basketball, football, or hockey; he also enjoyed
20watching CNN and being knowledgeable about current events; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Maurice Powe was preceded in death by his parents;

2    WHEREAS, Maurice Powe is survived by his sons, Elvin Butler
3and Maurice Powe III; his brothers, Bernie, Anthony, and
4Patrick (Sandra) Powe; his loving confidante, Johnnie Mae; his
5aunt, Mary Louis Pearson Orr; his uncle, Willie E. Pearson; and
6numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be
7it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10mourn the passing of Maurice L. Powe Jr., and extend our
11sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
12and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Maurice Powe as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
