HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Lost deliveries negatively affect businesses,
3hurt residents, communities, and the economy; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Service standards implemented by mail package
5delivery services are essential to providing prompt and timely
6delivery of all mail, including online purchases; with more
7Americans shopping online, the number of package thefts have
8been increasing; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Each year more than 23 million Americans have
10their packages stolen and lose an average of $140.00; and
 
11    WHEREAS, According to Consumer Affairs, more than 4,000
12customers have filed complaints against shipping companies
13regarding the theft of packages; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Citizens can prevent package theft by
15implementing additional safety precautions, including using
16Smart Package Lockers or convenience stores to secure packages,
17having packages delivered to a workplace, installing front door
18security cameras, requiring a signature on delivery, rerouting
19or rescheduling package deliveries, requiring vacation package
20holds, purchasing a package guard, and insuring packages;
21therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3urge package delivery companies to respond to the increased
4public concern by examining ways to reduce package thefts and
5expedite customer refunds as appropriate; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That we urge the citizens of Illinois to take
7additional measures to make sure their packages are not stolen
8from their front doors or porches; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the United States Postal Service, Amazon, FedEx,
11and UPS.
