HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lost deliveries negatively affect businesses, hurt residents, communities, and the economy; and

WHEREAS, Service standards implemented by mail package delivery services are essential to providing prompt and timely delivery of all mail, including online purchases; with more Americans shopping online, the number of package thefts have been increasing; and

WHEREAS, Each year more than 23 million Americans have their packages stolen and lose an average of $140.00; and

WHEREAS, According to Consumer Affairs, more than 4,000 customers have filed complaints against shipping companies regarding the theft of packages; and

WHEREAS, Citizens can prevent package theft by implementing additional safety precautions, including using Smart Package Lockers or convenience stores to secure packages, having packages delivered to a workplace, installing front door security cameras, requiring a signature on delivery, rerouting or rescheduling package deliveries, requiring vacation package holds, purchasing a package guard, and insuring packages; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge package delivery companies to respond to the increased public concern by examining ways to reduce package thefts and expedite customer refunds as appropriate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge the citizens of Illinois to take additional measures to make sure their packages are not stolen from their front doors or porches; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the United States Postal Service, Amazon, FedEx, and UPS.
