HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives publicly acknowledges and recognizes those individuals who serve their greater community, those whose hard work, dedication, and commitment to the needs of those around them drive the success of programs, causes, and organizations; and

WHEREAS, "Kehillath Sha'arei Tzedek Mishkan Yair," a communal mainstay in the West Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago for more than a quarter century, is celebrating its twenty-sixth anniversary dinner on February 3, 2018, and at this time of celebration, is proud to join the Illinois House of Representatives in honoring Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish has continually served the greater community; in the fifteen years he spent at the Agudath Israel of America, he secured critical funding for Jewish communal programs, both nationwide and within the state of Illinois; his strong relationships and fundraising abilities attracted tens of millions of dollars in state and federal aid to communities in need nationwide; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish has faithfully served the Synagogue as its cantor for more than two decades; his years of service and dedication to the synagogue have earned him the respect and admiration of the congregation; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish has received numerous awards for his work, including a recognition from The Walton Family Foundation for the development of a strong grass roots movement in the area of school choice, a New York State Senate Proclamation for hurricane relief efforts, the Alumnus of the Year Award from the Cincinnati Hebrew Day School, and an award for the development of critical school choice advocacy efforts from the Ruth and Lovette Peters Foundation; and

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish for his steadfast devotion, leadership, and dedication to his synagogue and the greater community, and we congratulate him on his accomplishments and contributions to the people of the State of Illinois and the nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish as an expression of our esteem and respect.
