HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jeffrey L. Weissgerber, Chief of Police for the Village of Beecher, who passed away on October 5, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weissgerber was hired as a full-time police officer by the Village of Beecher in April of 1988 and received certification as an officer from the Police Training Institute on October 7, 1988; he was promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Beecher Police Department in 1992, and then to the rank of lieutenant in 1994; he served as Acting Chief of Police in 1998 and again in 2000; he was appointed Chief of Police on May 1, 2000 and served in that position for the last 17 years; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weissgerber was the longest-serving village employee, providing service to the residents of Beecher for 29 years; he received numerous written commendations from his superiors and many letters of gratitude from residents whom he assisted during their time of need; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weissgerber was the longest-serving police chief in Illinois and carried out his duties for the people of Beecher with integrity and courage; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weissgerber was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Weissgerber, and his mother and father-in-law, James and Earleyne Meinhart; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weissgerber is survived by his wife, Jackie; his children, Brian, Jamie, Nick, Georgie, and Logan; his mother, Carol Weissgerber; his siblings, Mark Weissgerber, Lisa (Joe) Maidman, and Kurt Weissgerber; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Gill; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jeffrey L. Weissgerber, Chief of Police for the Village of Beecher, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chief Weissgerber as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
