HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the Illinois State Police
4Department on the occasion of its 95th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police Department was formed on
6April 1, 1922 under the direction of Superintendent John T.
7Stack; its motto is, "Integrity, Service, and Pride"; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The goals of the Illinois State Police are to
9improve the quality of life for citizens through unimpeachable
10integrity, public service, and training and education, to
11safeguard the public by assisting law enforcement, decreasing
12traffic fatalities and injuries, and reducing crime and the
13fear of crime, and to provide leadership through innovation as
14a dynamic, diverse, learning organization which promotes
15personal and professional growth; and
 
16    WHEREAS, As of 2017, more than 60 state troopers have paid
17the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in service to the
18State and its citizens; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Today, the Illinois State Police Department has 21
20patrol districts, seven investigative zones, six operational
21forensic science laboratories, and five regional crime scene

1services commands; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police are currently helmed by
3Director Leo P. Schmitz; the Illinois State Police Heritage
4Foundation's Memorial Park will soon be constructed in downtown
5Springfield; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8recognize the Illinois State Police Department on its 95th
9anniversary, thank them for their service, and wish them many
10more successful years; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to the Illinois State Police, the Illinois State
13Police Merit Board, and the Illinois State Police Heritage
14Foundation.
