HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Michael
4S. Holewinski of Chicago, who passed away on June 19, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Holewinski was born to Stanley and
6Genevieve Holewinski on April 30, 1947; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Michael Holewinski held numerous positions
8throughout the years, including toy buyer for Montgomery Ward,
9pilot, Illinois legislator, attorney, administrative assistant
10to Mayor Harold Washington, vice chairman of the Illinois
11Gaming Board, chairman of the Illinois Manufacturers'
12Association and, most significant to him, a manufacturer; he
13took over the family business, the Ace Plating Company, and
14continued to build his manufacturing empire with the Acme
15Spinning Company, F&S Stamping, Cano Tool, Art Specialty, and
16Barnes Planting; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Michael Holewinski was elected to the Illinois
18House of Representatives in 1974 at the age of 26 and served
19for two terms; he was the founder of the 35th Ward Independent
20Precinct Organization; he was a two-time recipient of the
21Independent Voters of Illinois and Independent Precinct
22Organization's Best Legislator Award; and

1    WHEREAS, Michael Holewinski preferred to relax on the
2beaches of South Maui and Chetek, Wisconsin; he always looked
3forward to spending time with his family, the "Cousins", and
4his many friends and neighbors; he was a political junkie who
5relished a good debate; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Michael Holewinski was preceded in death by his
7parents and his daughter, Annie; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Michael Holewinski is survived by his wife of 53
9years, Mary (Plaza); his son, Jeff (Jamie); his sister, Joyce
10(Jim) Walschlager; his sister-in-law, Jennie (Tony)
11Fontanetta; his brothers-in-law, Joe (Emilie) Plaza and Rich
12(Sharie) Plaza; and many nephews, nieces, and great-nieces;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16mourn the passing of Michael S. Holewinski, and extend our
17sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
18and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Michael Holewinski as an expression
21of our deepest sympathy.
