HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the 125th anniversary of the
4founding of Glen Carbon; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glen Carbon, which means "Valley of Coal", was
6incorporated in 1892; it was an area already rich in
7agriculture, mining, and railroading and served as a hub of
8travel for people and goods; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Glen Carbon had many industries throughout the
10years; bricks manufactured by the St. Louis Brick Company
11located in the Village, were used in buildings in Forest Park
12for the 1904 World's Fair; in 1898, the first volunteer fire
13department was created; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Glen Carbon became a melting pot of nationalities
15and a community where people watched out and cared for each
16other; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The history of Glen Carbon can be found in the
18Glen Carbon Heritage Museum, housed in a building built in 1914
19and originally used as the local school; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Today, Glen Carbon is known by some as a "quiet

1hamlet" and has a small town image that is loved by both
2residents and visitors; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5recognize the 125th anniversary of the founding of Glen Carbon,
6and we wish it many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Glen Carbon Mayor Robert Jackstadt.
