HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Ina Dews on the occasion of her 80th birthday and recognize her commitment to the Elgin community; and

WHEREAS, Ina Dews has sacrificed her time, talents, and financial resources, working to end discriminatory practices in Elgin through her involvement with the Elgin Human Relations Commission; and

WHEREAS, Ina Dews continues the legacy of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through her leadership and participation in coordinating celebratory events honoring Dr. King; she was instrumental in persuading the Elgin City Council to rename Route 20 "Martin Luther King Drive"; and

WHEREAS, Ina Dews served on the Elgin Human Relations Commission until February of 2010; and

WHEREAS, Ina Dews has helped others to understand the past, and teach timeless lessons of courage and endurance through her legacy of community activism, service and responsibility; she has served as a role model for younger generations; and

WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has proclaimed March 31, 2017 a day of celebration for Ina Dews's 80th birthday; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ina Dews on her 80th birthday and recognize her commitment to the Elgin community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ina Dews as an expression of our esteem and respect.
