HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Deborah Summers on the occasion of her retirement as President of the National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Summers served as President from 2008 to 2016; she oversaw 24 chapters across the United States; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Summers is a founding member of the Joliet Chapter of the National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc., where she also served as President; the chapter is now in its 26th year; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Deborah Summers, National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc. has grown from 15 chapters to 24; membership has grown tremendously and continues to expand throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Summers has instituted numerous programs, including the "Real Men Read" and "Reading for Life" literacy programs, domestic violence programs, and minority mental health initiatives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Deborah Summers on her retirement as President of the National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc., and we wish her the best in all of her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Deborah Summers as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
