HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Carolyn
4Rush of Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May
627, 1949; she moved to Chicago at an early age; she graduated
7from Hirsch High School and Roosevelt University in Chicago
8with high honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational
9Leadership; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush served as Chairman of the Board of
11Directors of Beloved Community Family Services, an
12organization whose mission is to provide a network of
13compassionate services that promote the cultural, economic,
14and social well-being of youth and families in the Englewood
15and surrounding communities; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush's professional career includes four
17years of service as the creator and administrator of the
18Banking Development Program for the Treasurer of the State of
19Illinois; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush worked as a community organizer,
21precinct captain, and political strategist in many campaigns;

1she was instrumental in the civil rights movement, working to
2end discrimination in housing and employment; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was the longtime political advisor to
4her husband, U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush, and served as First
5Lady of the Beloved Community Church of God in Christ, a church
6founded by her husband; she also served the Church in a
7leadership capacity through her diligent work in the Church's
8Core Leadership Group; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was an avid gardener and enjoyed
10antiquing and exploring her interest in vintage architecture;
11she loved to read and developed an interest in writing; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush is survived by her husband of 36
13years, U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush; six children; and 14
14grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17mourn the passing of Carolyn Rush, and extend our sincere
18condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19her; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Carolyn Rush as an expression of our
