HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas A. Herling, who passed away on December 10, 2016, at the age of 84; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was the youngest of six children born to the late Arved and Loretta (Morley) Herling; he proudly served in the military during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Herling spent over 40 years as a fireman for the Chicago Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was affectionately known as "Babe" and "The Duke"; and

WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Thomas Herling and his wife relocated to Naples, Florida, where they enjoyed spending time with their family and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and was absolutely delighted to see them win the 2016 World Series; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was the beloved husband of 62 years of Maureen Ann Herling (Schwind); the devoted father of Sean (Kathy) Herling, Daniel (Ron) Herling, Margaret "Peggy" (Steve) Janes, Rosanne (Bill) Laurino, Thomas (Eva) Herling, the late Anthony (Sharon) Herling, and Eileen "Darling" (Darryl) Corter; the adored Papa of many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and the fond uncle and treasured friend to many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas A. Herling, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Herling as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
