| | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the Rotary Club of St. Clair | | 4 | | County (West), formerly the Rotary Club of East St. Louis, on | | 5 | | celebrating 100 years of service to the community and world; | | 6 | | and
| | 7 | | WHEREAS, Rotary Club 11 (St. Louis) sponsored the Rotary | | 8 | | Club of St. Clair County (West) as the first club in Rotary | | 9 | | District 6510; Rotary International chartered the club on March | | 10 | | 1, 1917 as
the 278th club in the world; Rotary International | | 11 | | has over 35,000 clubs around the world with over 1.2
million | | 12 | | members; and
| | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of St. Clair County (West) is made | | 14 | | up of community and business leaders
dedicated to high ethical | | 15 | | standards as set forth in the 4-Way Test that is recited at | | 16 | | each meeting; and
| | 17 | | WHEREAS, Rotarians serve communities locally and around | | 18 | | the world through contributions of time,
effort, and money; | | 19 | | Rotarians have traveled to other countries to support service | | 20 | | projects; in the past 100 years, St. Clair County (West) | | 21 | | Rotarians have contributed over
$140,000 to The Rotary | | 22 | | Foundation for funding grants around the world; in addition, |

| | 1 | | they have
contributed over $60,000 to rid the world of Polio in | | 2 | | the past 30 years; and
| | 3 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of St. Clair County (West) | | 4 | | sponsored the first District 6510 Interact Club at
Althoff High | | 5 | | School in Belleville over 25 years ago, first EarlyAct club at | | 6 | | Edgemont Elementary in East St.
Louis, scholarships to high | | 7 | | school seniors, sponsored students for Rotary Leadership | | 8 | | Awards, and hosted
international exchange students; and
| | 9 | | WHEREAS, In the past 60 years, the Rotary Club of St. Clair | | 10 | | County (West) has provided leadership for
the District 6510 | | 11 | | with six District Governors: William Popkess, Ray Sonnenburg, | | 12 | | Edwin McLean Sr., James
Cavataio, Mel Weith, and Thomas | | 13 | | Ripperda; therefore, be it
| | 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | | 15 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | | 16 | | declare March 4, 2017 as
Rotary Club of St. Clair County (West) | | 17 | | Day in the State of Illinois, and we urge our citizens to honor | | 18 | | their
efforts by finding a way to serve their community; and be | | 19 | | it further
| | 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | | 21 | | presented to the Rotary Club of St. Clair County (West) as a | | 22 | | symbol of our respect and esteem.
