HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert E.
4Cook, who passed away on February 9, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Cook grew up in Chicago and graduated from
6Wheaton College; he served in the United States Navy during the
7Korean War; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert Cook came to Springfield in 1949 and worked
9with the Taxpayers Federation of Illinois; in 1956, he was
10asked to be the first Executive Director and first full-time
11staff member of the Illinois Association of Real Estate Boards,
12later the Illinois Association of Realtors; he orchestrated the
13planning and construction of the association's first office
14building, the Illinois Realtors Plaza at the Capitol City
15Shopping Center; he started the Realtors' Political Action
16Committee (RPAC); he was the main spokesperson for real estate
17at the Illinois Capitol; he was the Speaker of the Illinois
18Third House (the lobbyist's organization) in 1973; he chaired
19the Governor's Prayer Breakfast in 1976; and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 1984, Robert Cook retired from the Illinois
21Association of Realtors and pursued his primary passion in
22association management, lobbying the state legislature; in

11985, he co-founded the lobbying organization of Cook-Witter,
2Inc., which today represents over 15 statewide associations; in
31995, he left Springfield to be with his family in Colorado
4Springs, Colorado; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Cook was very active in his church, Cherry
6Hills Baptist, and many other missionary programs; he was one
7of the founding members of the Illinois Society of Association
8Executives and actively participated in the American Society of
9Association Executives, where he earned the Certified
10Association Executive (CAE) designation and was awarded the Key
11Person Award; he also served on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
12"Committee of 100"; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert Cook was preceded in death by his daughter,
14Judy; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Cook is survived by his wife of 67 years,
16Robin, and his children, Cindy and Terri; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19mourn the passing of Robert E. Cook, and extend our sincere
20condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
21him; and be it further
