HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Edwards County Farm Bureau (ECFB) on the occasion of its 100th anniversary on November 10, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The ECFB was founded in 1918 and became affiliated with the Illinois Agricultural Association in 1920, the statewide farm bureau; and

WHEREAS, From the 1920s through the 1940s, the ECFB continued their work to support agricultural communities with a variety of projects, including eradicating bovine tuberculosis, starting the Anti Chicken Theft Association, and purchasing a soil testing lab; and

WHEREAS, From 1968 through 1974, the ECFB celebrated its 50th anniversary; in 1979, at the annual meeting, membership voted 82% in favor of a new building program; and

WHEREAS, In 1995, the ECFB Board of Directors created the successful Ag in the Classroom program to be implemented in classrooms around the county; and

WHEREAS, Robert Mason retired as manager in 1999 after 41 years of service; later on, "Bob's Tree was created to honor his years of service; and

WHEREAS, In 2007, the ECFB achieved 105.72% membership growth, making them the top county in Illinois for membership growth for the 2006-2007 farm bureau year; and

WHEREAS, In 2018 at the Illinois Farm Bureau annual meeting, the ECFB was awarded the newly established New Horizon Award for their social media program, Ag Proud, that features short videos and stories about local farmers; and

WHEREAS, On November 10, 2018, the Edwards County Farm Bureau "Gathering of Members" will be the 100th annual meeting of the organization; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Edwards County Farm Bureau on its 100th anniversary and wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the ECFB as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
