HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Army Specialist Marcus Moore
4for his service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Specialist Moore joined the United States Army in
62006; after nearly a decade of service, he was honorably
7discharged in 2014 and is considered a hero; and
 
8    WHEREAS, While serving in combat duty in Iraq, Specialist
9Moore was severely injured when his unit was ambushed; his
10Humvee struck an IED, and then enemy insurgents opened fire; he
11and his team hid behind his truck for cover, but his back and
12ankle were badly injured from the blast; he was airlifted to
13Germany, where he spent three months in recovery; his
14experiences in Iraq have left him with severe PTSD; and
 
15    WHEREAS, For his service to his country, Specialist Moore
16has been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Global
17War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with
18Campaign Star, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service
19Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal; he and his family
20are also receiving a home in Steger from the nonprofit
21organization, Building Homes for Heroes; and

1    WHEREAS, Building Homes for Heroes is strongly committed to
2rebuilding lives and supporting the brave men and women who
3were injured while serving the country during the wars in Iraq
4or Afghanistan; since 2006, the organization has been at the
5forefront of making a significant difference by building or
6modifying homes and gifting them, mortgage free, to veterans
7and their families; these homes not only help to remove the
8family's financial burden, but they also help to restore the
9individual's freedom and enable the veteran to lead a more
10independent and productive civilian life; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The United States Army has guarded our freedom and
12has played a role in making families successful and helping
13communities thrive, including neighborhood organizations,
14businesses, nonprofit agencies, policymakers, and, of course,
15individuals and families themselves; it is an honor to support
16the men and women who have loyally and courageously served our
17country; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20recognize Army Specialist Marcus Moore for his service, and we
21congratulate him on receiving a home from Building Homes for
22Heroes; and be it further
 
23    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
