HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate John F. McDonough on being the inspiration for and the first recipient of the John F. McDonough Humanitarian Award, created by the Gala Committee of St. Juliana Parish; and

WHEREAS, St. Juliana Parish includes 3,000 parishioners, a vibrant CCD program, an active alumni organization, and a school that recently earned the National Blue Ribbon for Excellence in Education; the parish created an award to honor those who have demonstrated significant leadership, moral integrity, spiritual commitment to Catholic values, and extraordinary leadership through charitable giving; and

WHEREAS, John McDonough graduated from St. Juliana School in 1967; after spending 24 years in many leadership positions with the Chicago Cubs, he joined the Chicago Blackhawks as President in 2007; he was named President and CEO in 2011; under his guidance, the Blackhawks revitalized the team's profile and re-energized its fan base; since he joined the organization, the team won Stanley Cup titles in 2010, 2013, and 2015; he always includes the Edison Park Community in his successes, as he has noted the neighborhood has made him the person he is today; and

WHEREAS, John McDonough is also a frequent lecturer at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business and at Northwestern University; he serves as a sustaining board member for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Illinois Board and sits on the Athletic Advisory Board of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, the Special Olympics Illinois Foundation Board, the Chicago Blackhawks Foundation Board of Directors, the NHL Club Business Advisory Board, and the NHL Board of Governors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John F. McDonough on being the inspiration for and the first recipient of the St. Juliana Parish John F. McDonough Humanitarian Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John McDonough as an expression of our esteem and respect.
