HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3honored to pay tribute to those who have dedicated a life of
4service to the citizens of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Croessman was born in Blue Island and lived
6in Oak Lawn before moving to Du Quoin in 1955; he attended Du
7Quoin High School, where he won a state speech championship and
8served as an editor of the school newspaper, The Magnavox,
9before graduating in 1970; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Croessman was hired at the Du Quoin Evening
11Call after graduating from Southern Illinois University
12Carbondale; he worked at the Du Quoin Evening Call for over 40
13years, from 1974 until 2017, when a stroke unfortunately ended
14his tenure; most of his years there were spent as editor; his
15favorite memory was covering President Ronald Reagan's visit to
16the Krone Family Farms in the late 1980s; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Croessman received the Outstanding Du Quoin
18Citizen of the Year Award in 2004; in 2013, he received the
19Outstanding Community Citizen Award from the Du Quoin District
20300 Foundation for his service to the Du Quoin community as
21editor of the Du Quoin Evening Call; and

1    WHEREAS, John Croessman has had a passion for photography
2and boating; known as a highly skilled craftsman, he built his
3family home by himself; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The friends and family of John Croessman have
5established the John H. Croessman Communications Scholarship
6in his honor; the scholarship will be awarded for the first
7time in 2019; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10honor the life and legacy of John H. Croessman, the longtime
11managing editor of the Du Quoin Evening Call, and we recognize
12the positive impact he has had on his community; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to John Croessman as an expression of our esteem and
16respect.
