HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Pershing Elementary School on being invited to attend the 10th Annual Our American Voice Summit in Springfield to share their community project with other schools from across the State, meet legislators, and tour the Capitol; and

WHEREAS, Our American Voice begins with the fundamentals of democracy - how government works - and lessons of change distilled from the American Revolution to the civil rights movement and beyond; it takes a critical additional step by teaching students how to apply these lessons to their local communities, form vigorous partnerships with other organizations, and create living projects and campaigns that generate real results; and

WHEREAS, Pershing Elementary School's project consisted of organizing an Illinois state history museum for the school to tour; OAV students are arranging for each grade level to learn about Illinois and create a project for display in the museum; and

WHEREAS, Participating in Our American Voice and visiting the Capitol is a memorable learning experience that teaches students the fundamentals of American democracy and helps them work to create positive change in their community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Pershing Elementary School on being invited to attend the 10th Annual Our American Voice Summit in Springfield to share their community project; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Pershing Elementary School as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
