HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Congregation Beth Shalom
4on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In July of 1967, 17 families formed Congregation
6Beth Shalom and held their first Shabbat services at the
7Northbrook Savings & Loan; a few years later, the congregation
8purchased a piece of land on Walters Avenue, the current home
9of Beth Shalom; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Beth Shalom continued to grow both in members and
11physical size; in June of 1980, Beth Shalom completed a second
12expansion; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Changes to the physical building, staff, and
14programming are continuously reevaluated to meet the broad
15range of interests, ages, and needs of the membership, and Beth
16Shalom is always striving to be innovative, inclusive, and
17inviting to all; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Today, 1,170 households make up the current Beth
19Shalom membership; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The original members of Beth Shalom made the

1commitment to ensure that there would be a home for
2Conservative Judaism in Northbrook; they acted with vision, not
3only for themselves but for the generations to come; therefore,
4be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7congratulate Congregation Beth Shalom on its 50th anniversary,
8and we wish them many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Congregation Beth Shalom as a symbol of our
11respect and esteem.
