HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Congregation Beth Shalom on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, In July of 1967, 17 families formed Congregation Beth Shalom and held their first Shabbat services at the Northbrook Savings & Loan; a few years later, the congregation purchased a piece of land on Walters Avenue, the current home of Beth Shalom; and

WHEREAS, Beth Shalom continued to grow both in members and physical size; in June of 1980, Beth Shalom completed a second expansion; and

WHEREAS, Changes to the physical building, staff, and programming are continuously reevaluated to meet the broad range of interests, ages, and needs of the membership, and Beth Shalom is always striving to be innovative, inclusive, and inviting to all; and

WHEREAS, Today, 1,170 households make up the current Beth Shalom membership; and

WHEREAS, The original members of Beth Shalom made the commitment to ensure that there would be a home for Conservative Judaism in Northbrook; they acted with vision, not only for themselves but for the generations to come; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Congregation Beth Shalom on its 50th anniversary, and we wish them many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Congregation Beth Shalom as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
