SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Local Government Transparency Act. Provides that a mayor, president, vice president, chairman, director, or chief administrator of a unit of local government, either appointed or elected, may not be appointed, elected, or otherwise serve as the treasurer of that unit of local government. Provides that a mayor, president, vice president, chairman, director, or chief administrator of a unit of local government who is also the treasurer of that unit of local government on the effective date of the Act must comply with the provisions of the Act no later than 90 days after the effective date of the Act. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Local
5Government Transparency Act.
 
6    Section 5. Officials as treasurer. Notwithstanding any
7other provision of law, a mayor, president, vice president,
8chairman, director, or chief administrator of a unit of local
9government, either appointed or elected, may not be appointed,
10elected, or otherwise serve as the treasurer of that unit of
11local government.
 
12    Section 10. Compliance. A mayor, president, vice
13president, chairman, director, or chief administrator of a unit
14of local government who is also the treasurer of that unit of
15local government on the effective date of this Act must comply
16with Section 5 no later than 90 days after the effective date
17of this Act.
 
18    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19becoming law.
