SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

20 ILCS 605/605-1020 new

Amends the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department is authorized to create a Regional Economic Revitalization Competition Program for the purpose of making competitive grants for the economic development regions of the State in need of community and economic revitalization.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding Section 605-1020 as follows:

(20 ILCS 605/605-1020 new)

Sec. 605-1020. Economic revitalization competition. The Department is authorized to create a Regional Economic Revitalization Competition Program for the purpose of making competitive grants for the economic development regions of the State in need of community and economic revitalization. The competitive grant program shall support the revitalization of communities, job growth, and population sustainability. The Department shall adopt rules and make grants, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly, for this purpose.
