SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Merle S. Miller, who passed away on
4December 13, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Merle Miller was born on January 18, 1932 in
6Clinton; his parents were Carl S. and Esther (nee Turner)
7Miller; he married Helen Wagner on December 12, 1959 in
8Clinton; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Merle Miller served his country as an officer in
10the United States Navy in San Diego after graduating from the
11University of Illinois in 1955; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Merle Miller farmed and raised purebred
13registered Angus cattle for 55 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Merle Miller was a member of the First Christian
15Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the
16Clinton Country Club, the Benevolent and Protective Order of
17Elks, the DeWitt Masonic Lodge, the Bloomington Consistory, the
18Ansar Shriners in Springfield, the Agricultural Stabilization
19and Conservation Service Board, the American Angus
20Association, the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, the Alpha Gamma
21Rho Fraternity; he was a Clintonia Township Trustee, a past

1President of the DeWitt County Elevator, a past President of
2the DeWitt County Farm Bureau, and Director of the Division of
3County Fairs and Horse Racing for the State of Illinois from
41984 to 1991; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Merle Miller was preceded in death by his parents;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Merle Miller is survived by his wife, Helen
8Miller; 3 sons, Brett (Jill) Miller, Bart (Margery) Miller, and
9Brad (Janeen) Miller; 4 grandchildren, Brianna, Ryan, Ashley,
10and Grace; and a sister, Margorie Anderson; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Merle S. Miller; and
14be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Merle Miller as an expression of our
17sympathy.
