SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James M. VanDien, who passed away on
4August 13, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James VanDien was born on November 6, 1941 in
6Waukegan; his parents were Gordon B. and Della M. (nee
7Ryskiewicz) Van Dien; he married his high school sweetheart
8Barbara Hrutka on November 10, 1962 at Mother of God Church in
9Waukegan; and
 
10    WHEREAS, James VanDien attended St. Gilbert Church School
11in Grayslake and graduated with the class of 1959 from North
12Chicago Community High School, where he was an all-star
13athlete; he subsequently attended Illinois State University,
14where he played Red Bird football; he also played semi pro for
15the Lake County Rifles and tried out for the Chicago Bears in
16the late 1960s; and
 
17    WHEREAS, James VanDien was in partnership with his father
18and brother at the Van Dien Automotive Garage on 22nd Street in
19North Chicago; he served on the North Chicago Police Department
20for 10 years as a Detective and Juvenile Officer while
21attending Carthage College; he was also a financial planner
22with Mutual of New York and Hinsdale Associates for 23 years

1and was a life and qualifying member of the million dollar
2Round Table; and
 
3    WHEREAS, James VanDien was the beloved husband of Barbara;
4the loving father of Maribeth and Michael (Laura); the fond
5grandpa of Sawyer Belle; the dear brother of his late twin,
6John K. (Judy), and the late Gordon, III; the fond uncle of
7Johnette Delle and John K., II (Kathleen); and the great-uncle
8of Johnna Marie Van Dien; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
11family and friends, mourn the passing of James M. VanDien; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of James VanDien as an expression of
15our sympathy.
