SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Neal W. Schwartzkopf of Alton, who passed away on August 1, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 31, 1926 to Clarence and Marie (nee Bladt) Schwartzkopf; he attended Alton public schools and graduated from Alton High in 1944; after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, where he gained the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 498th Bomb Group, 875th Bomb Squad, and Regiment 73rd Wing; he was a tailgunner with the B29 Flying Fortress, stationed in Saipan; he returned home in 1946 and enrolled in Shurtleff College (SIU Alton), where he earned a bachelor's degree in business; in 1947, he married Kathleen Fahrig; and

WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf spent years working for Standard Duplicators; he then established the Schwartzkopf Printing Co. in 1972 as a family business; and

WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Parish in Alton, where he was on the parish board and sang in the choir; he loved music and played both the clarinet and saxophone; he played the clarinet in the Alton Community Band and the New Horizons Band in Alton; while living in Fort Meyers, Florida, he played in the Lee County Community Band and the Sanibel Island Band; he was a longtime member of Alton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1308 and was a former member of the American Legion in Fort Meyers; and

WHEREAS, After the passing of his wife, Kathleen, Neal Schwartzkopf married Jane Moylan in November of 1999; and

WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, of over 50 years, Katie; his 2 sons, Mark and Tom; his grandson, David Schroeder; and his son-in-law, Rich Ogburn; and

WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf is survived by his second wife, Jane (nee Moylan); his 3 daughters, Christine (Michael) Galligan, Teresa (Michael) Dressel, and Amy Ogburn; his son, Jim (Donna) Schwartzkopf; his daughter-in-law, Marie (Mark) Schwartzkopf; his 4 stepchildren, Michael (Suzie) Moylan, Larry Moylan, Kathleen Buck, and Connie (Bob) Schneider; his 29 grandchildren; and his 19 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Neal W. Schwartzkopf, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Neal Schwartzkopf as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
