SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Wallace William "Wally" Schwahn of Rock Island, who passed away on July 22, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn was born on June 2, 1923 in Appleton, Wisconsin; his parents were Edwin and Cora (nee Wegner) Schwahn; he married Nancy Ann Jost on April 5, 1951 in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn served his country as a member of the United States Armed Forces during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Following his service to his nation, Wallace Schwahn attended and graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry; he subsequently attended and graduated from the Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn was employed by Hodgson Funeral Home in Rock Island, where he worked as a funeral director and embalmer from 1950 until his retirement in 1991; following his retirement, he assisted the funeral home on a part-time basis for many years; and

WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn was a longtime and devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island; he was also a member of the Greater Rock Island Lions Club, where he worked countless evenings of bingo; and

WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn is survived by several cousins, including Mary Runge; his special friend, Mary "Deannie" Wiggins and her family, who he had "adopted" as his own; and his many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Wallace William "Wally" Schwahn; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Wallace Schwahn as an expression of our sympathy.
