SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Wallace William "Wally" Schwahn of Rock
4Island, who passed away on July 22, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn was born on June 2, 1923 in
6Appleton, Wisconsin; his parents were Edwin and Cora (nee
7Wegner) Schwahn; he married Nancy Ann Jost on April 5, 1951 in
8Rock Island; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn served his country as a member of
10the United States Armed Forces during World War II; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Following his service to his nation, Wallace
12Schwahn attended and graduated from Valparaiso University in
13Indiana with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry; he
14subsequently attended and graduated from the Worsham College of
15Mortuary Science in Chicago; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn was employed by Hodgson Funeral
17Home in Rock Island, where he worked as a funeral director and
18embalmer from 1950 until his retirement in 1991; following his
19retirement, he assisted the funeral home on a part-time basis
20for many years; and

1    WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn was a longtime and devoted member
2of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island; he was also a
3member of the Greater Rock Island Lions Club, where he worked
4countless evenings of bingo; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wallace Schwahn is survived by several cousins,
6including Mary Runge; his special friend, Mary "Deannie"
7Wiggins and her family, who he had "adopted" as his own; and
8his many friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Wallace William
12"Wally" Schwahn; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Wallace Schwahn as an expression of
15our sympathy.
