SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael "Tuna" McElroy of Decatur, who passed away on July 17, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Michael McElroy was born in Aurora on March 2, 1952 to Dick and Betty McElroy; he graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1970 and went on to receive an associate's degree from Danville Area Community College; he married Lynn Tuttle on June 21, 1980 in Danville; and

WHEREAS, Michael McElroy served as the Vice-President of Skeff Distributing Company; he served on Decatur's City Council from 2003 through 2009, and as Mayor of Decatur for the past 6 years; and

WHEREAS, Michael McElroy was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church; he served on the board of directors for the Association of Beer Distributors of Illinois, the Illinois Municipal League, the YMCA, Friends of St. Mary's, the St. Teresa Development Board, the Summer Start Festival, the Knights of Columbus, and the Danville Area Convention and Visitors' Bureau; he was past President of the Danville Jaycess, past United States JCI Senator, and former State Muscular Dystrophy Chair; and

WHEREAS, Michael McElroy was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Jim and Ginny Tuttle; and his sister, Anne McElroy; and

WHEREAS, Michael McElroy is survived by wife of 35 years, Lynn; his son, Matt (Christina); his siblings, Pat, Tim (Leslie), and Ellen; his brother-in-law, Lee Tuttle; his nieces and nephews, Hilary and Colin Runion, Conor, Brennan, and Dixie McElroy, Byrnes Kenworth, and Colleen (Jarid) Thompson and great-niece, Remi; Hayden Athey; Greg (Annie) and Maggie Tuttle; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael "Tuna" McElroy, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael McElroy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
